On the occasion of the Fifth Republic Day, the Embassy of Nepal in Paris organized a function last evening at the Residence of the Ambassad. At the start of the program, a minute’s silence was observed in the memory of known and unknown martyr’s who devoted their precious lives to bring changes in the country.
Present on the occasion were Their Excellencies Ambassadors of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan to France and Permanent Delegate of India to UNESCO. The function was also attended by the Presidents of Everest Nepali Association, NRN France and officials, Nepalese Business Organization and Pakofam, former Ambassador of France to Nepal, Professors, Researchers, Students, long term residents and other guests.
Delivering his welcome remarks, His Excellency Mr. Mohan Krishna Shrestha, Ambassador of Nepal to France extended to the guests his best wishes for good health, happiness and prosperity. Ambassador Shrestha also thanked SAARC Ambassadors for their presence and camaraderie.
Highlighting on different aspects of the country, Ambassador Shrestha said that Nepal is a unique country with ancient civilization and interesting history. Besides, Nepal is a naturally beautiful country with majestic Himalayan chain, rich cultural and religious traditions and impressive architectural assets. Commenting on the beautiful social fabric, he said that Nepalese people are multi-ethnic, multi-linguistic and have multi-cultural backgrounds. Yet they always live and co-exist in a harmonious way. The closely knit lifestyle of the people observing their cultural diversities is a hallmark. Nepal is the also the land of Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world at 8,848 meters and other several other high peaks. Lumbini in southern Nepal is the sacred place where Lord Buddha, the Apostle of peace, was born in 623 B.C. And also, Kathmandu city houses the living Goddess Kumari.
Ambassador Shrestha further went on to say that in our country, multi castes and creeds as well as popular beliefs have always complemented each other and never crossed. People are peace oriented and they knew the value of love and affection. The doctrine of live and let live has pervaded Nepalese society for years. A strand of deep nationalism had always binded Nepalese people at home or abroad. Nepalese people are genuinely peace loving and their warm hospitality has been known to the world for years.
Reflecting on the present situation in the country Ambassador Shrestha further said that like in the life of ordinary people, in the life of a country also, at times, there comes many challenges as well as opportunities. It has always been a fact that Nepalese people have solved their problems by themselves whether these problems are of socio-economic or political nature
Ambassador Shrestha said this year we are also celebrating Visit Lumbini Year and Investment Promotion Year 2012-2013. New era of changes will bring immense opportunities for economic development in our country.
Lastly, Ambassador Shrestha said despite differences in ethnic and cultural background, no matter wherever we are,we are always Nepali first.
Mr. Shailendra Maharjan, President of Everest Nepal Association, Mr. Nirmal Aryal, President of NRN France, Mr. Binod Ojha, President of Nepalese Business Organization and Ms. Jeeta Katuwal, President of Pakofan including Mr. Harihar Aryal also expressed their views on the occasion.
H.E. Mr. Rakesh Sood, Ambassador of India to France, while speaking on the occasion, said that Nepal is a beautiful country with very warm people. Recalling his fond memory of his stay in Nepal, Ambassador Sood said that he had visited many places of the country and found Nepalese people living together peacefully despite differences in their background. He expressed best wishes to Nepal and Nepalese people for overall wellbeing.
